It’s been a fabulous time here in Amsterdam, just time to fiddle with engine and enjoy this delightful boat. Engine runs, starts, does still some funny behaviour, now certainly (?) linked to a connectivity issue in instrument panel. After yesterday’s Fernox and back flushing with fresh water, testing, full drain down, remove magnetic pump, clean iron filings, refit, refill, run I thought I was “home and dry”. So, this morning, I put heat shrink over the crimp bullets that connect the mag pump to power, put another cable tie on, topped up the water in primary and ran. Hmmm, temp went up and off the scale.
So, what’s happening? Hmmm, use hand as thermometer, nothing too crazy, hardly up to temperature. Check indication still off scale but oh, tachometer is reading rubbish, showing 5-6 hundreds of revs when I know its doing 1500. Not a eureka moment as I have seen false indications of temperature (off scale) in the past not however with the tacho fault being observed. So, engine earth or inside control panel is the culprit.
Now, a full food shopping trip. WiFi here works pretty well so I do have a choice of media plus some slightly more readable novels, Bermese Days, Our Kind of Traitor. More soon from Covid hot-spot Amsterdam.
