A Mk1 of 1983. Decks had not been ground so that is a good start. Original teak was 10mm now worn to, worst case, 7.5mm. This of course means the original mastic, rubber, sikaflex, polysomething was standing proud of the wood by 1 – 2mm. Good news is that this makes taking it out relatively easy. Relatively, I’ve been at it 8 days now, 90% done just some difficult to access bits and the areas under the deck mounted hardware tracks, vents, fuel and water fillers, cleats, anchor winch. The bad news is that the grooves for the new Sika are too shallow and will need to be made deeper if they are to stick to the sides. I have an idea how to do this but not yet either modified the tool or tried it yet. Hope to progress that more next week when I’ll update this post.
96% of old rubber removed and ready to put ship indoors. This afternoon for pull out and mast off. Caio, yard owner at Yagra suggests I get rigging checked by professional using dye penetrant test. Then replacing any items that show cracks. I think that’s a good idea, particularly as I will then get a certificate that will allow full insurance cover for the rig. I hope I might be allowed to watch the process!
