The idea is to make all the components accessible (including those that it was just about impossible to reach with the original installation). I think the circulation pump needs reasonably regular maintence to clean off the metal uptake in the pump body which has quite strong magnets. The way Martec who designed the fresh water kit for the Volvo MD11 did it was to make it “easy to fit” with all component parts mounted onto the heat exchanger. After having worked on the engine it is just obvious that this needed to be redone.
