What a lot of Brits like to know about the island

Bit dull if I am honest, the place has a lot of military history as a U boat base and formed the original ideas which culminated in the Mullberry harbours used in Normandy. Churchill had the idea to sink a floating fortress in the sea off the Elbe to interdict maritime activity. This never happened but the germ of the idea was retained. Although not my most gripped subject WW1 had a lot of features which influenced WW2 thinking and the location of bases for U boats was certainly one of them. The actions in and around the Belgium ports during WW1 are actually notable and in the same spirit as the St Nazaire raid.

€19.50 for a litre of Jack, tobacco €44 for 5 X 50g.

Interesting chat with a based engineer (Airframe), he showed me the original water cistern, now used as a work room; seems all the houses had one. potable water is now produced on island from seawater.
