A few notable moments.

USS Wasp. En route Cuxhaven-Vlieland I hear a very businesslike American voice wanting to speak to a fishing vessel. In my experience the fishers almost never answer, particularly when you call them in English. After a second call the fisher comes up on the VHF and a request for his intentions is promptly answered (a normal request to deconflict a possible close quarters situation). I was sufficiently interested to googley the vessel and the answer was immediately obvious!

UK general election – A prediction for +100 days. “with much hand wringing the Government announced that shock horror things are really bad, the previous incumbent is to blame, something must be done”. After some public teeth sucking the new taxes are announced, CGT on house sales, +WHY?

Watching from the continent it’s hard not to be bemused by a system where winning 1/3 of the vote gives you Kim Jong Un levels of control

2019: Labour 32% vote share = one of worst defeats in their history

2024: 34% of vote = one of the biggest victories in their history (Ben Coates).

Rather a lot of orange whooping and wumping, fireworks going off at seven minutes, big screens outside pubs followed by a more subdued sense of reality. England had the better game and despite some questionable decisions the chaps in my pub had good words for me the only English man. More pain on Sunday. R
