Dutch style pea and ham soup

I have always loved this dish and been surprised to find it is only served in the winter. Well, I guess that’s traditional.

Ingredients

Smoked sausage

Pork belly

Split peas 400g aprx.

Vegetables

Bay leaves and any other aromatics.

Method.

Add dried peas pork belly. Bay leaves and water

So peas, pork, water and bay into pot. Simmer for an hour, skim scum, add veggies, finely chopped and a smoked saussie. Simmer further 20 mins. Check seasoning. Serve with slices of Top Notch smoked meat on brown bread.

Add sausage, chop pork belly (I used scissors)
Add veggies, finely chopped, carrot, onion, leak, perhaps others.
