Ship preparation

Domestic water tanks cleaned and closed up, quite an involved job so glad to see the back of it!

New dogs last year, paint job seems to be holding up.
Anti fouled. Three hour job including mask demask. Not painting for beauty!

Remove the Yellow Sea clutter. Oxalic acid, the new gardena sprayer (a good bit of kit) and then wax and polish to reduce the build up, I think it’s oxidation and an oxide in the water that gets into the scratches on the surface.

Almost instant stain removal with oxalic acid solution. Cheap and long lasting for me as I bought a kilo and have only used perhaps 15%.
After Oxalic acid wash. Maybe a little over 90 minutes. Still need to spot clean and then wax and polish.

Acid flush the engine “leg”, in this configuration the raw or sea water inlet to cool the engine is drawn in through the leg and barnacles can build up inside the galleries. Remove and inspect raw water impeller; marginal decision to replace but the old one has been in for some time and not a particularly expensive item. No

Removed fresh water circulation pump, cleaned and inspected; found it’s a bit marginal with signs of wear on the basket below the impeller. It’s a pig of a job to get access to, one of my least favourite tasks; needs to be done at least once a season and I think it will be sensible to either replace with new or rebuild as it’s a rather critical item.

Exercised and inspected raw water intake valve, it’s a rather nasty plastic item with a number of online comments suggesting changing it out but it works and has done so for many years, probably since build so it stays as Is.

Big job was the rear hatch repair, including thinking time, ordering parts and overcoming the inevitable gotcha’s, around 10 days and a lot of pain but it’s a good repair and I now know how to do the others!

Polishing the topsides (the sides of the boat above the waterline) takes a long time. Do a bit of it most days, 40% complete.

As of today (Sunday 28/04) the end is in sight and I think I ask the yard to put her in the water a week tomorrow depending on weather and any snafu’s.
